The Ecumenical Program for Urban Service ("EPRUS"), an AmeriCorps program, places volunteer youth in inner-city ecumenical programs. A program of college voucher awards for volunteers who participate for a full year in community service was added.
In the aftermath of the Los Angeles uprising, the Urban Strategy Initiatives sought to address issues of racism, violence, unemployment and community development. The quadrennium heralds initiatives including the ecumenical urban volunteer program; an urban strategy resource notebook; a $20 million religious investors initiative; a model university/seminary consortium for 'civic conversation' including the Managed Care Colloquium; an anti-violence program model; and, a public housing economic development model.
