Peacemaking Begins at Home
Exploring the Fundamentals of Nonviolent Conflict Resolution
A Resource for Families
Almost everybody is in favor of world peace and most individuals strive to get along. Even so, the catastrophic personal and universal challenges in our world today remind us that it isn't as easy or simple as it might seem. The United Nations has declared the first decade of the 21st century to be the Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World. To realize this vision, people of all ages need to do their part! We all need to shape our patterns for work and living to nurture homes, churches, schools and communities to be places for peaceful living!
This resource is designed to engage families in conversations and activities that will nurture lifestyles of peace and nonviolence. It may be used by individual families as devotional offerings or by congregational leaders as content for family or intergenerational events. It introduces the Family Pledge for Nonviolence as a primary tool for nurturing a commitment to peacemaking for all ages and it provides activities that highlight each component of the pledge. A lead-in or gathering activity is designed to begin your time(s) together.
