A Brief Overview

The General Assembly’s 250 delegates represent the NCC’s 35 Protestant and Orthodox member communions, which in turn count a total of 50 million adherents in the U.S. The member churches -- including most major historic African American denominations -- work together through the Council in domestic and international programs of humanitarian aid, education, witness and advocacy. Annual budget: $70+ million.

NCC General Secretary ("CEO") is the Rev. Dr. Bob Edgar, a former Congressman and seminary president; former Ambassador Andrew Young is the NCC’s President "Chairman of the Board") in 2000-2001.
