National Council of Churches Communication Commission
meets in the nation's premier media market: New York City

Main Story.

New York, October 1, 2009 -- The National Council of Churches Communication Commission, consisting of the communications and media staff leaders of NCC member communions and other church organizations, met here in annual session September 28-30.

The meeting, which was the best attended and -- according to initial evaluations, the highest rated -- commission gathering in several years -- included visits with key media brokers, including CBS News headquarters on 57th Street, PBS' Channel 13, and religion writers for the New York Times and the Associated Press.

Keynote speakers included the Rev. Dr. Serene Jones, President of Union Theological Seminary, and Deepa Fernandes, executive director of People's Production House, an organization that seeks to make media available to all segments of society.

The meeting adjourned Wednesday afternoon, September 30, and many commissioners concluded the week at the 27th annual Everett C. Parker Lecture at New York's Riverside Church, where NCC General Secretary, the Rev. Dr. Michael Kinnamon, was the lecturer.
