Remembering recovering American
service men and women at Christmas

New York, December 1, 2007 – For military men and women recovering from disabling combat injuries, the holiday season can sometimes add to a sense of helplessness and loss.

The Committee on Disabilities of the Education and Leadership Ministries Commission encourages member communions of the National Council of Churches to remember recovering service men and women, remembering that this is the time to celebrate the coming the one who came to bring peace to all.

Be aware, however, that the U.S. Postal Service and Department of Defense medical centers cannot accept mail with addresses such as “Any Recovering Soldier.”

For information about how you can help, visit the web site of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
