July 15, 2004, NEW YORK CITY -- When major figures in the fight to end hunger came together in Washington earlier this year to celebrate the thirtieth anniversary of hunger advocacy organization Bread for the World, a National Council of Churches film crew was there, capturing comments from participants such as Bread for the World’s CEO David Beckman and NCC's General Secretary Bob Edgar. 

The interviews will be part of "Hunger No More: Faces Behind the Facts," a television documentary to be broadcast nationwide on ABC network affiliates beginning October 24 as part of ABC’s “Vision and Values” series.  It is one of eight hour-long documentaries prepared for the networks and their stations each year through the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission, of which the NCC Communication Commission is a founding member.

Others interviewed for the special broadcast include: Senators George McGovern and Elizabeth Dole; ethicist Jeffrey Sachs of The Earth Institute at Columbia University; Joan Holmes of the UN-related Hunger Project; and John McCullough, CEO of Church World Service, the ecumenical humanitarian agency.

In addition to NCC, CWS and Bread for the World, co-sponsoring organizations include the United Methodist Committee on Relief; the World Hunger Program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church; Society of St. Andrew; and Mennonite Media, whose president, Burton Buller, is directing the production.  Buller is also chair of the Electronic Programming Committee of the NCC Communication Commission.  Shirley Struchen of NCC is the coordinating producer.
