
PHOTOS AND CUTLINES, MAY 21 RECEPTION FOR "WITNESS TO GENOCIDE"
Participants in a May 21 book party at the United
Nations underscored the message of healing and hope at the heart of "Witness to
Genocide: The Children of Rwanda," a collection of artwork by child survivors of the
1994 Rwandan genocide. From left: H.E. Dr. Richard Sezibera, Ambassador of the Republic of
Rwanda to the United States, who contributed an essay to the book; Dr. Bob Edgar, General
Secretary of the National Council of Churches, the organization that published the book;
and Richard A. Salem, editor of the book and president of Conflict Management Initiatives,
a not-for-profit organization that supports and encourages the use of mediation and other
collaborative processes to manage community conflicts.

Genocide: The Children of Rwanda," a collection of artwork by child survivors of the
1994 Rwandan genocide, were recognized at a May 21 reception at the United Nations. From

holding the award given last October by an Italian cultural organization, the Research
Centre for the Development and Recovery of Human Potential, to then First Lady Hillary
Rodham Clinton for her contribution to the book.
