Program Information: Introduction The NCC anniversary celebration offers many opportunities for participation, reflecting the rich and diverse nature of the ecumenical movement. The daily rhythm of our time in Cleveland begins with morning worship, drawing us together visibly as the one body of Christ that we are. We then disperse in directions that reflect the varied interests and talents that have been given to each of us. Participants can choose from an exciting array of forums. The forums and other special events allow you to focus on important contemporary issues through the lens of Council involvement. Completing the daily cycle, large events of common interest bring us back together. The week's highlights* include:
Greetings from His Honor Michael R. White, mayor of Cleveland, at an Opening Luncheon (Nov. 9). "The Great Conversation" (Nov. 10), to include voices from the past, wisdom from the present and hopes for the future. Concert by the Cleveland Orchestra (Nov. 9) invoking the spiritual quest for unity through music. Forums led by nationally and internationally recognized participants including Childrens Defense Fund President Marian Wright Edelman, former Ohio Congressman the Honorable Louis Stokes, Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Philadelphia School Superintendent David Hornbeck, and Harvard Memorial Church minister the Rev. Prof. Peter J. Gomes. * Meeting times are subject to change.
