Mar Thoma—an ancient church with roots in South India—is one of the Oriental Orthodox communions that belongs to the NCC—a body that unites cultures as well as religious traditions. The welcoming luncheon at Cleveland's Public Auditorium—the same location as the first NCC assembly in 1949. Bishop Melvin Talbert was master of ceremonies at Tuesday's luncheon.
