Committee on Education for Mission (PCEM)
|
Mission:
To enable denominations to inspire their congregations to
live out their commitment to being partners in God’s
mission. |
Five objectives flow from this mission statement and direct the work of PCEM:
-
Identify programmatic emphases
that stimulate persons and congregations to become involved
in mission and to take action
-
Create an arena for denominational
staff in mission education to collaborate on the development
of educational resources
-
Generate a network of denominational
staff in mission education for sharing resources, experiences,
expertise, and research
-
Formulate ways for churches
in the United States and Canada to hear the voices of people
of faith in churches around the world
-
Provide a forum for the
study of missiological trends
Mission efforts are not the sole work of specialists, such as missionaries or denominational executives. PCEM seeks to help all Christians fulfill their mandate to serve God’s own purpose and activity in the whole creation. The committee identifies at least three elements in mission:
-
building relationships with people around the world through developing a deeper understanding of life and culture in the variety of geographical settings
-
becoming recipients of God’s grace through others
-
developing an awareness of and response to issues that call for faithful obedience
“May the God of steadfastness and encouragement grant you to live in harmony with one another, in accordance with Christ Jesus, so that together you may with one voice glorify God” (Romans 15:5-6 NRSV) |
