James Tallon
President, United Hospital Fund
The United Hospital Fund of New York, is a philanthropic and health services research organization that addresses critical issues effecting hospitals and health care in New York City. The fund is also active in grant making policy development, educational programs, fund raising and volunteerism.
Mr. Tallon is also chair of the Kaiser Commission on the Future of Medicaid as well as on the board of the Alliance for Health Reform which frequently has educational meetings in Washington, DC. He holds appointment as visiting lecturer at the Harvard University School of Public Health. He also served in the New York State Assembly for nineteen years and was majority leader from 1987 to 1993, and was chair of the Health Committee from 1979 to 1987. Preceding his time in office he was executive director of New York Penn Health Clinic Council, one of the state's eight regional health planning agencies. A native of Brooklyn, he received a BA cum Laude in political science from Syracuse University, and an MA in International Relations from Boston University. Honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters were awarded to Mr. Tallon from the College of Medicine and School of Graduate Studies of the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn and from New York Medical college.
