About Us
Theological Statement
Vision Statement We believe this is a vision worthy of our pursuit as the church of Jesus Christ. The mission of the Special Commission is to provide a moral and spiritual voice on behalf of member churches of the NCCCUSA, and to raise questions as to whether or not justice is being done for the voiceless persons who were affected by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. We understand the role of the Special Commission to be the following: to listen to grassroots individuals and groups; to stand with churches, faith-based groups, allies and coalitions; to educate the constituents of our communions; and, to advocate for justice in the distribution of resources and services for those impacted by the hurricanes, especially the poor. We believe that the following principles should be adhered to in the efforts to rebuild: ► Right of affected residents to participate in the decisions about rebuilding of the Gulf Coast region; encourage congregations to participate in community organizations advocating a voice for the voiceless
►
Collective responsibility
of all people in the global community to participate in the equitable
and just rebuilding of the Gulf Coast region. Biblical and Theological Principles to Consider in the Rebuilding of the Gulf Coast
