THE BE-ATTITUDES OF PEACEMAKING

By Bob Edgar, General Secretary
National Council of Churches
March 26, 2003

  1. Create SHOCK and AWE by showing LOVE and JUSTICE.
  1. Cancel the malpractice insurance for SPIN DOCTORS.
  1. Capitalize the word NON-VIOLENCE.
  1. Study the PEACE TACTICS of Jesus and Mohammed, King and Gandhi.
  1. Beware of those who read the SCRIPTURES and find God to be a war-maker, not a peacemaker.
  1. Warn that the end time could come prematurely if HUMANS put their fingers on the wrong buttons.
  1. Declare the real AXIS OF EVIL to be:
    • The pandemic of poverty
    • The environmental degradation of planet earth
    • And the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

8.   Eat, drink and breathe PEACE.  LOVE passionately both neighbors and enemies.  Be slivers of HOPE.   Always remember, “In a dark time the eye begins to see.”

  1. Understand that the present crisis is more about AMERICAN POLICY than Iraq.
  1. Envision real change in human history that requires a mutation of heart and mind. We need spiritual and intellectual MUTANTS to lead us.
