Through locally driven service, EPRUS/AmeriCorps is improving communities across the nation!
EPRUS/AmeriCorps
Education Awards are being used in many innovative, affordable ways. Here are just a few examples of how they are impacting communities:
- School-based or community-based service programs, including youth corps, engage 17-year-olds in tutoring and mentoring younger children and leading them in service projects after school, on weekends, or during the summer.
- High schools are developing summer service groups that give young people a chance to serve their communities and earn an award for college or vocational training.
- Colleges and universities are creating programs in which students coordinate service activities in local schools and serve as mentors for middle and high school students.
- Employers, in partnership with community programs, reward full-time employees who perform service on weekends or for brief periods during the year.
- Religious organizations are able to expand existing service programs to increase their impact and allow participants to earn education awards.
- Fellowship programs are enabled to allow recent college graduates to serve in public intern positions in their professional field for a year before seeking other employment.
- EPRUS/AmeriCorps members are integrated into strategies to solve local problems. For example, a city seeking more supervised activities for high school students is enabled to design and fund a program in which EPRUS/AmeriCorps members
ead teams of youth in service activities.
- Churches, Community Centers and other faith based community groups use EPRUS/AmeriCorps Awards to greatly expand the number of participants in service - and their impact on the community.
