The Education and Leadership Ministries Commission is an umbrella – fifteen ecumenical program committees and two project teams  working in diverse areas of educational ministry. These committees represent the work that the denominations do together to support local congregations in educational ministry.

Our priorities:

● Provide relevant approaches and resources for strengthening families, so that every child may grow up and fulfill her or his full potential.
● Provide leadership development for congregational leaders.
● Provide creative projects to enhance and foster spiritual formation.
● Promote and support high quality, comprehensive public education.
● Provide action programs to dismantle institutional racism.

Pastoral Letter in Response to the United Nations’
International Year for People of African Descent (2011)

As a community of communions, we are committed to eradicating racism by examining the factors inhibiting all peoples of color from experiencing the fullness of leadership and inclusion in church and society. We encourage member communions to continue to join the worldwide community in embracing, honoring and celebrating the rich histories, diverse cultures, vast contributions and gifts for ministry of people of African descent within church and throughout society. We implore member communions of the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA to join in the global campaign to advance the rights of people of African descent through prayer, advocacy, and action.
