Did You Know That . . .

The vast majority of immigrants settle in urban areas. In 1990, 93 percent of foreign-born Americans lived in metropolitan areas, comparted with 73 percent of native-born Americans.
In the 1980s, three-quarters of all immigrants entering the U.S. settled in six states: California, New York, Texas, Florida, New Jersey, and Illinois.
The foreign-born population is growing rapidly in others states as well. For example, Massachusetts has over one-half million foreign-born residents, close to 40 percent of whom entered between 1980 and 1990.
