Nov. 10 Worship Hosted by D.C. area Lesbigay-Affirming Church Leaders. 7 p.m., New York Avenue Presbyterian Church, 131 New York Ave. N.W., Washington, D.C. Guest Preacher: the Rev. Candace Shultis, Metropolitan Community Church of Washington, D.C. This ecumenical service of word and sacrament opens the Sixth Annual Leadership Conference of Lesbian/Gay Affirming Christian Organizations. This group of church leaders from many denominations has met annually since 1992 for networking, mutual support and advocacy for lesbigay concerns within the National Council of Churches.
Nov. 11 News Conference by Interfaith Hunger Appeal Delegation Upon Return from North Korea. 1 p.m., National Press Club, Lisagor Room. IHA includes Church World Service (the humanitarian response ministry of the National Council of Churches), Catholic Relief Services, Lutheran World Relief and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. An IHA delegation will speak about their Nov. 4-8 visit to famine-stricken North Korea.
Nov. 12 Luncheon with the Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund, President, Hartford Seminary, on the book "Clergy Women: An Uphill Calling," by Dr. Zikmund, Adair T. Lummis and Patricia Mei Yin Chang. 12:15 p.m., Hotel Washington. Dr Zikmund will share learnings from the newly published study on gains, inequities and problems of clergy women over the past decade. Nov. 13 Gay/Lesbian Concerns Breakfast. 7:00 to 8:45 a.m., Hotel Washington. Hosted by the National Leaders of Lesbian/Gay Affirming Christian Organizations. Members of NCC delegations, the Gay & Lesbian Leadership Caucus and individuals from local congregations will share their experiences of lesbian and gay couples in our families and families of faith.
