NCC's Ecumenical Community

Ecumenical Advocacy Days:
an annual event bringing 700+ Christians to
Washington to discuss issues ranging from economic justice to
international affairs and peace, teaching them ways to make a difference
through legislative advocacy, and a day on Capitol Hill to put their
concerns into action. |

Let Justice Roll:
a poverty- reduction
program initiated by the NCC to address poverty in America through
efforts to increase the minimum wage; now with more than 80 partner
organizations, Let Justice Roll has been successful in raising the
minimum wage in advocacy campaigns in a dozen states. |

NCC
Eco-Justice
Program: a national network of
the NCC's member faith groups reaching out in grassroots support of new
ideas in meeting the challenge of climate change, energy efficiency and
environmental health; hailed as one of the most effective advocacy
efforts ever developed by the churches.

Save Darfur:
NCC is a member of this coalition to raise public
awareness and mobilize a massive response to atrocities in Sudan's
Darfur region, assuring humanitarian aid, conditions for the safe,
voluntary return of displaced persons, promoting long-term
sustainability, holding perpetrators accountable. |
 |
Special Commission on the Just Rebuilding of the
Gulf Coast:
an
initiative of the NCC Governing Board to respond to multiple community
needs in the wake of Hurricane Katrina; the commission seeks to hold
government and churches accountable for continuing their work in
the region. |
 |
Justice for Women Working Group:
a special emphasis on the unique justice needs of women in the U.S. and
abroad, remembering past women leaders, focusing on key issues such as
human trafficking and domestic violence, and developing leadership
opportunities for young women. |
 |
National Farm Worker Ministry:
This ecumenical and interfaith organization,
founded in 1920 to provide food, clothing and day care to poor farm
workers, today works with them to press for justice and equal treatment,
and to achieve fundamental change in their living and working
conditions. |
 |
Middle East Peace:
NCC and 13 of its
communions are part of a church-based coalition seeking a U.S. foreign
policy that avoids and resolves armed conflicts, values human rights,
arms control and foreign aid, and protects the unique nature of
Jerusalem as sacred to Christians, Jews and Muslims. |
 |
Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility:
This ministry raises the prophetic voice of faith in the
marketplace, to change the way companies conduct themselves as good
corporate citizens, helping transform how they relate to investors,
stakeholders and the global community. |
 |
Law of Church and State:
This five-volume research
masterpiece, prepared by former NCC religious liberty director Dean
Kelley, has been published online by the First Amendment Center as a
resource for all persons interested in key legal issues between church
and government in the United States. |
 |
A Social Creed for the 21st Century:
a
concise summary of the churches' views on the major issues facing
society, "putting social ethics on a clear theological base". Adopted
by the NCC General Assembly in 2007, the wide-ranging document updates
the ground-breaking Social Creed of 1908. |
 |
Agricultural Missions:
This ecumenical movement,
founded in 1930, seeks to accompany and support people of faith and
conscience around the world who are facing the challenges of
globalization, poverty and injustice that affect rural communities,
working toward a sustainable society. |
 |
National Religious Partnership on the Environment:
NCC
was a founding member of this coalition
of Protestants, Jews, Orthodox, Evangelicals and Catholics uniting
around environmental stewardship -- protecting land, air and water from
abuse and neglect. |
 |
Faithful America:
an
online advocacy community launched by NCC in the wake of the Abu Ghraib
torture scandals; it subsequently grew to more than 100,000
participants, and in late 2007 was given to Faith in Public Life to aid
in its further development as a vehicle for advocacy by people of faith. |
