The National Council of Churches Governing (formerly Executive) Board acts on behalf of the NCC General Assembly between the Assembly's annual meetings on all responsibilities except for those reserved for the General Assembly by the Council's Constitution.

Responsibilities: The Governing Board's responsibilities include oversight of the work of the General Secretary in the implementation of policy and program decisions of the General Assembly and Governing Board; oversight of NCC programs and finances; election of executive staff; approval of the annual consolidated budget and transmittal of the budget, financial and program reports to the General Assembly for receipt and review; allocation of the Ecumenical Commitment Fund; initiation of resolutions, and actions on resolutions, messages and public statements recommended by communions or Commissions, and oversight of long-range planning.  See the NCC Constitution and Bylaws for specifics.

Membership:  The Governing Board's membership includes the Council's Officers, Chairpersons of the Standing Committees of the General Assembly and Governing Board, Chairpersons plus one additional member of the Council's Commissions; the Executive Director of Church World Service, Inc., along with five persons nominated by the CWS Board of Directors; two official representatives from the General Assembly delegation of each member communion, and up to five additional members of the General Assembly for inclusiveness and expertise. 

Meetings:  The NCC Governing Board meets four times a year.  Upcoming meetings include:
