Education and Leadership Ministries

The priorities of NCC's program of education and leadership ministries are:

1) Programs and resources for strengthening families, so that every child may grow up and fulfill his or her full potential;
2) Leadership development for congregational leaders;
3) Action programs for dismantling institutional racism,
4) Creative projects to enhance and foster spiritual formation, and
5) Promotion and support of high quality, comprehensive public education.

Leading the NCC's education program is Education and Leadership Ministries Commission, which traces its roots to the formation of the American Sunday School Association in 1824, became a charter member of the International Council of Religious Education in 1922 and was a founding member of the NCC in 1950.  Throughout its history, the Education and Leadership Ministries Commission has incorporated congregational Christian education, higher education, ministry concerns and biblical translation in its work.

Another NCC initiative is Education for Mission, whose objective is "to help member denominations inspire their congregations to commit themselves to being partners in God’s mission."  It provides a forum for mission educators to study missiological trends, identify themes on significant mission issues, and develop programmatic resources in those areas.

Web-based resources for education ministries include the catalog of the NCC's Friendship Press, offering the best in global resources for local churches and communities.  See also:
