Worldwide Faith News
is an international web-based service that provides a one-stop showcase for
news from faith groups all over the world, especially valuable for
giving international access and equal stature to news and voices from developing nations and minority faith
groups.
This fully-searchable editorial database, hosted by the Communication Commission, now contains approximately 30,000 official news releases, policy statements and other documents generated by the news offices of national and international faith groups. It is used regularly by hundreds of editors and reporters covering the field of religion, and typically registers 16,000 hits per day, an average of more than one visitor every six seconds. Last year WFN was second only to the BBC as the most-referenced religion news source on Google News, as determined by the Google PageRank Order software. Organizations providing stories range from the All Africa News Service and the Catholic Bishops of India to the Evangelical Alliance of the U.K. and the Taiwan Church News. Posted material is primarily in English, but also includes some items in French, German and Spanish. RSS feeds (automatic distribution of material to a computer's news reader program or to a website) are offered for all WFN stories generated by the National Council of Churches and a half-dozen denominational news offices, with more to come. WFN is managed by the Communication Commission's News and Media Relations Committee, and is supported by gifts from NCC member bodies and other religious groups, individual and foundation gifts, and the Grants Program of Trinity Church in New York City. Over the past three years, support has come from the following:
